Horror Movie Magazine Texual Anaylsis - 'Scream Magazine'

The magazine cover contains an up-close image of the werewolf from the 2010 film 'The Wolfman.' This is instantly recognisable to fans who would of recently went to watch the film at the cinema and therefore catches your eye.  The NVC of the werewolf shows it to be angry and snarling. The werewolf myth is often used in horror movies as much like vampires and other horror myths it creates a good platform in order to build a scary storyline.

The lighting of the image is quite high-key, I think this is done to allow the viewer to easily see up-close the features of the werewolf in order to show how scary it is. The masthead 'Scream' is situated at the top center of the magazine, the text is red which connotes blood or danger which is commonly used in horror films. Blood is seen to be dripping from the masthead which is a simple to link in the theme of the 'wolfman' to the magazine.

The cover uses quite high key lighting throughout, this may of been done to show up-close detail of the 'wolfman' as a shock tactic to draw your eye to the viewer. The background seems to be a grey sky which again links in with Werewolf theme in that a full moon is associated with the Werewolf myth.

At the bottom of the cover a red strip of text has been included to inform the reader what else is to come throughout the magazine, it advertises 'nightmare on elm street'; another horror classic re-make. The text is white with a red background, this is done in order for the text to stand out and be seen more clearly. On the bottom right of the cover it also advertises 'Piranha 3D' proposong the question whether is it 'scary or silly.' This is a useful tactic to make people want to read the magazine to find out what people think. I think this magazine is aimed at mainly males of 16-24 years old.
